About the Company...

We are a Hawaii-based corporation, now in our 11th year of business. We maintain a training fleet of seven aircraft and employ more than a dozen instructors, mechanics, and support staff. We are a part 141 school and a Cessna Pilot Center, directly affiliated with the manufacturer. Our service offerings include:

Flight Training (ASEL and AMEL)
Pilot Shop
LaserGrade Computer Testing
Ground Schools

Location

We are located on the Honolulu International Airport at 134 Nakolo Place, on the corner of Lagoon Drive and Nakolo Place (same street as the FAA FSDO and Air Service).

Training Fleet

We have one Piper Aztec, and four C-172SP's (2001-2007 models). All of the aircraft are GPS-equipped.

Are Flight School Hawaii instructors "independent contractors?"

We do NOT play the "independent contractor" game. FSH hires its instructors as full or part time employees and pays all required taxes and insurances. Independent contractors operate under their own liability coverage, at their own risk. In other words, if an independent is injured in an accident and cannot work, he/she is not protected by insurance as an "employee" would be.

Employee Benefits

In addition to a pay scale that recognizes the experience and training of our instructors, benefits include a company retirement plan and training assistance program. Workers compensation and temporary disability insurance protect both the company and the flight instructor in the event of an accident. Medical and supplemental insurances are also available to qualified employees.

Part Time versus Full Time Instructor Positions

Part time instructors are paid for billed time only. Hourly pay rates are set higher to account for this, but there is no guarantee of time. Part time instructors can also increase their hourly pay rate by providing greater availability. Part time instructor pay ranges between $14 and $20 per hour for flight. Full time positions are normally reserved for management, including assistant chief flight instructors, and support staff.

Do I have to wear a uniform?

Yes. The uniforms are part of our professional image. Staff and instructors wear the pilot-style uniform (white pilot shirt, black trousers or shorts, wings, and epaulets). Wings and epaulets are provided, but employees provide their own shirts. Employee discounted shirts can be ordered.

Do I qualify for employee discounts?

Yes. Employees receive a 10 percent discount on pilot shop items. They may also rent the aircraft at special employee rates.

Instructor Minimums

For single-engine aircraft, instructors must have CFI and commercial certificate and at least 500 hours of pilot time. FSH-trained CFI's may be considered at 350 hours. Call for details.

A Message from FSH

We are serious about providing our students with the best training possible. We are equally serious about building and maintaining a learning environment that values and rewards safe, professional flying and judgment.

Anyone can teach the physical skills involved in flying. We're striving to be different...to teach and to build more than just "skill".

If you're looking to gain more than just "time" in this phase of your pilot development, contact us. We'd like to talk with you.
